History of the LaRayne School of Dancing

Chicago dancing school.

Little is known about this school except that it was run by LaRayne Rhode during the 1930’s and 1940’s.

Scope and Content of the Collection

Published and mimeographed routines for teaching ballet, tap and a variety of novelty dances. The material, probably kept together for use at the LaRayne School of Dancing in Chicago, consists of routines choreographed or presented by Marion Freeman, Jack Manning, the Del-Wrights and the Chicago Association of Dancing Masters. Also, routines and instruction presented by Ernestine Louise Badt at the Chicago Teachers College, 1939-1947, and the published score of a children’s musical.

Organized with dance routines and score preceding Chicago Association of Dance Masters materials. Dance routines arranged alphabetically by teaching organization or person, followed by miscellaneous routines and a published score for a children’s musical. Chicago Association of Dancing Masters materials arranged chronologically.
