Clippings, Loose, 1966, 1977, 1989
Scope and Content of the Collection
Primarily writings by Mowrer covering the era of Generalissimo Francisco Franco as Regent of Spain, from the 1950s through the mid-1970s. There is also coverage of issues in Gibraltar, Portugal, The Basque region and separatists, and a small amount about Israel. All of Mowrer’s field notebooks are carefully indexed on the front cover with main topics of writing (summarized in the folder titles given here; since almost all notebooks are about the Franco regime, that topic is not specified in this list). Also includes names and addresses of contacts, appointments, quotations, and personal reminders and remarks. Typescript articles are fully indexed by subject of article, and arranged by news organization that published the article. “Syndicate” refers to articles that were written for various newspapers. Articles and Scrapbooks also include correspondence and telegrams (very occasionally). The essay about Mowrer’s escape from Poland in 1939 is part of a larger memoir that remains to be completed. There are three photographs of groups of unidentified men at an unidentified meeting; none of the men appear to be Richard Mowrer. Some reference books are annotated by Mowrer.
