Scope and Contents note
Robert Harris was an important presence in the CB&Q’s early years. He began his career at the company in 1863 as assistant superintendent under C. G. Hammond, was promoted to general superintendent in 1865, and became president in 1876. He led the road though its early development, but clashed with J. M. Forbes and C. E. Perkins over labor policies and expansion and left the company when Forbes made himself president in 1878.
