Subseries 3 P4.5: In-letters, 1881-1904
Scope and Contents note
The time period covered by this correspondence encompasses some of the most volatile and industrious years in the history of the CB&Q. Perkins was now president of the company and the lines were expanding at a rapid rate. Noteworthy topics include: Government regulation of freight and passenger rail rates, technological innovation in rail equipment, the strike of 1888 and other labor conflicts, employee salaries and personnel issues, and financing and acquisition of new roads. Some of Perkins outgoing correspondence is filed in this series. Note: some correspondence was destroyed in a fire that took place in CB&Q storage. Note: Box number 522 was inadvertently skipped in numbering.
