Series 31 C: General Office – Chicago, 1876-1909
Scope and Contents note
Primarily telegrams sent to and from the Chicago office between CB&Q officials concerning general railroad business and operations. Telegrams in subseries 3 C1.2 contains correspondence regarding the Great Northern and Pullman strikes of 1894, as well as the march of Jacob “Coxey’s Army,” and how it affected railroad travel. Also includes letters sent to the Chicago office pertaining to contracts and leases and the management of the Hannibal & St. Joseph and the Kansas City, St. Joseph & Council Bluffs lines. Only the first subseries is part of the original donation, the rest are part of the 1850s additions.
