 Series
Identifier: CB&Q 32.81

  • Staff Only

Scope and Contents note

This series contains an array of scrapbooks created by various departments and CB&Q officials. The majority contain clippings from Boston, Chicago, and other Midwest newspapers chronicling the progress of the company, stock announcements, changes in railroad regulations and laws, labor, and interstate commerce. Scrapbooks from the late 1930s to the early 1950s created by the advertising department contain pamphlets and other promotional materials for travel and excursions on various lines in the Burlington system. They include notes on the number of copies ordered and the printer employed. Other scrapbooks contain clippings on the 1821 fire in the CB&Q building, C. E. Perkins clippings from his time in the land department and his 1901 retirement, clippings on a 1932 shopmen’s strike, Burlington Zephyr promotional materials, Exposition Flyer promotional materials and photos, and memorabilia, tickets, timetables and other printed materials from the Passenger Department going back to 1862. The General passenger Department’s “Relic File” includes tickets, ticket books, brochures, and other printed material from the 19th century. For more of this material, see Series 32.9, Pamphlets and Printed Ephemera.

Note: Many of the clippings scrapbooks are extremely brittle and should be handled with care.
