Scope and Content Note

From the Series:

Addition of mostly postcards, donated by Jeanine McNally in 2017. Series consists mostly of blank postcards (individuals and packets) of sites around the United States and Europe, with some reproductions of paintings. There are some message postcards written to and from family members, and a set written from Margaret Clark McNally to her aunt Sophronia T. Clark, about her U.S. travels. Of most interest is a 1921 travel diary written on postcards and bound together with steel rings, penned by Andrew McNally III, detailing a trip where he took a train from Chicago to southern California, then spent six weeks driving through California, up to San Francisco, and then through to Portland Oregon and the Columbia River Highway. For each place visited, he had coordinating postcards to illustrate his journey. McNally's visit included stops in Riverside, San Diego, Pasadena, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Del Monte, Monterey, Yosemite, Mariposa, Big Tree Grove, Muir Woods, and San Francisco. There are also a handful of maps and travel guides, mostly related to the 1921 trip.
