Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

Scrapbooks contain press clippings, correspondence, photographs, and programs from dance performances and social events during the time spanning her teen years in the 1910’s through her passing in 1991. Although Ruth Page’s personal and professional life were closely interwoven, the bulk of materials in this series documents her professional career as a performer and choreographer. Items of note include clippings and programs from the early years of Page’s career when she toured South America with Anna Pavlova’s company and performed in the Broadway show Music Box Revue, the 1930’s, when she created Frankie and Johnny as part of the WPA program and toured extensively in the United States, her work in Chicago with the Chicago Lyric Opera and Ravinia Festival, her version of the Merry Widow produced in the 1980’s, and the large amount of material documenting the Chicago Civic Ballets’ annual productions of The Nutcracker,
