Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

Ganz, being both a composer and an essayist and lecturer, wrote both texts and musical compositions. Texts include early, edited, and final drafts and printed versions of articles, speeches, lectures, and essays. There are also lecture notes and fragments, and notes for radio and television appearances. Ganz's unpublished autobiography includes a proposed table of contents, several drafts of chapters, and handwritten notes. Most drafts are undated; one chapter draft is dated 1958. Lectures and speeches without distinctive titles have been grouped together by topic; most of them are detailed handwritten notes, with occasional printed parts and or musical sketches included.

Musical compositions include works for symphonic and chamber orchestras, solo piano, piano and voice, sketches, and technical exercises for piano. Photostats are positive copies unless indicated otherwise. Manuscripts are most likely all in Ganz's hand, except parts. Musical compositions are arranged with smaller works first in alphabetical order, then the Konzertstuck and Symphony score and parts, then works by others inscribed or dedicated to Ganz.

For printed and published works, see the Newberry's online catalog. There is a preliminary catalog of Ganz's musical works, by Donald Draganski, in the Newberry's bibliographic collection, call number: folio ML 134 .G24 D73 1990.
