Scope and Contents note

Lily Venson’s research materials related to the demolition of the Edgewater Beach Hotel along Chicago’s northern lakeshore in the Edgewater neighborhood. The hotel closed in December 1967 following proceedings related to bankruptcy. The building was leased to Loyola University Chicago in the fall of 1968 for use as a dormitory. Demolition of the hotel began in late 1969 and was completed in 1971. The Edgewater Beach Apartments which were a part of the hotel’s complex before its demolition are still in use today.

Venson covered the demolition of the hotel as a journalist for Lerner Newspapers and her research materials include: correspondence, court reports, editorials and features stories written by her and other area journalists, press releases, photographs, and a real estate sale contract.
