Scope and Content of the Collection

From the Collection:

Materials relating to the career of Charles F. Seyferlich (ca. 1852-1914), Chicago firefighter and Fire Marshall from 1910-1914. The collection includes several newspaper clippings that follow the later career of Charles Seyferlich after he was appointed Fire Marshall in 1910 from various area newspapers including the Chicago Tribune, Chicago American, and Daily Herald. There are also a number of photographs and postcards of the Chicago Union Stockyards Fire (1910), the memorial service for Seyferlich's predecessor Capt. James Horan, photographs of Seyferlich's own memorial parade in 1914, and undated photographs of firemen and the firehouse of Engine Co. 98. Ephemera from the Chicago Fire Department, Firemen's Mutual Aid and Benefit Association, and related professional organizations includes receipts, by-laws, and dance cards from fund-raising balls.
