Scope and Contents note
This series consists mainly of correspondence between Raster and his family and correspondence between his family members. Raster’s letters cover topics such as his experiences and feelings as an immigrant in New York City, the aftermath of the Chicago fire in 1871, and his thoughts on the political climate of his time. The letters are in German, yet many have been translated by Raster’s granddaughter Lenore Raster Aagaard. Also included are materials such as diaries, account books, memorabilia, and photographs from Margarethe Raster, Anna Raster, and Lenore Raster.
