From the Series:

Photographs of Doris Humphrey from her childhood to her years as a choreographer. Several photographs are of her with her family, including her father, Horace Humphrey, and son, Charles Humphrey Woodford. Many photographs are of her dancing, from her early professional years with the Denishawn Dancers to the height of her dance career, in productions like “With My Red Fires” and “The Story of Woman.” Photographs of José Limón make up a large part of the collection, many of which are of him dancing in productions from his company, and others of him with his wife Pauline Lawrence and Charles Humphrey Woodford. A few photographs are of unknown persons and unknown productions. There is a folder of negatives with various productions and family stills.

NOTE: Due to donor wishes, the photographs in Box 13 Folders 279 and 280 may be viewed in the reading room, but may not reproduced in any way. This includes taking photographs for research purposes. See Newberry Library staff for further details.
