Scope and Contents note

From the Record Group:

Production Files were created by the Teich company's Art Department for manufacturing postcards and other jobs. They contain the raw material for each job, including job "ticket" (a form with notes on the client and the design of the card), original photographic prints and negatives, artwork, layout, proofs, correspondence, and instructions for the artists on coloring and/or touching up the image. Some production files are very sparse and only include the job ticket. Others are thick with materials for creating the card, sometimes even including fabric and carpet samples to show the artists the correct coloring details.

Photonegatives, often internegatives between original and copy prints, were largely removed due to their deterioration. A note has been left where a negative has been removed, indicating whether it was discarded or removed for permanent freezer storage. Negatives were discarded in files containing extant prints where the original was not substantially touched up by the artist. If the print does not exist, or if the print is touched up significantly from the original image, then the negative was kept and transferred to freezer storage.
