Series 3: Works by Dawson, 1919-approximately 1956

 Series

  • Staff Only

Scope and Contents note

This series consists of both Dawson's journalistic writing and his poetry. The majority is made up of notes, research and drafts of his legal writings including his "Advice of Counsel" column, and feature length articles.

Dawson had a relatively brief career writing poetry, most of which appears between 1919-1920. There are several published poems as well as handwritten and typewritten drafts. Of note is his self-published book "Danko" which caused a small scandal when excepts appeared in the Double Dealer. It remains a mystery as to whether a poet named Danko ever existed. Most believe this work was an inside joke of Dawson's, as well as an outlet for work of a more intimate nature.

It appears that Dawson initiated several book length projects that never saw fruition. There are extensive notes and research under such titles as "Frontier Justice," "H. H. (Headed for Hell)," and "Rufus Choate." There are also several drafts of his published novel, The Magic Firecrackers.
