Directories, reports, correspondence, employee manuals, press releases, promotional materials, and other items pertaining to the administration and operation of the Chicago Daily News. Materials range from documents on establishment of the Daily News, Field Enterprises' takeover of the paper, and the paper's demise. The series also contains numerous letters to then editor James Hoge regarding a layout redesign in 1977; files created by Herman Kogan, then cultural editor, dealing with his "Insight" articles for the centennial issue of Chicago Daily News, and his editorial work on the arts section Panorama; and the files of Nick Shuman, who served in several positions including foreign service editor and assistant managing editor. Other foreign service materials can be found in Sub-Series 3.
