Scope and Contents note
Correspondence, awards, degrees, clippings, biographical notes, FBI files, school records, and other personal documents. Medical Records contains prescriptions and correspondence with doctors, and Sherman Zoning Commission contains correspondence and materials from Cowley's service on the Commission. Belsano and Environs contains information and correspondence regarding Cowley's childhood years and reminiscences. Of particular interest are the postcards and posters (broadsheets) collected by Cowley in Spain during the Civil War (see Oversize).
Original folder titles and comments were kept and placed in the front of the folder, except in cases that lacked an original folder title or comment.

Conditions Governing Access
The Malcolm Cowley papers are open for research in the Special Collections Reading Room; 5 folders at a time maximum, and items in each folder will be counted before and after delivery to the patron (Priority I). Series 6: Family Papers are restricted and require approval of curator before accessing.

Some audiovisual recordings in this collection have been digitized. Researchers may access those materials in the Special Collections Reading Room.
