Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

The Helen S. Winters Papers contain correspondence, school papers, artwork, and other personal items. Letters to her mother Georgia B. Steele while Helen was in college are especially evocative of college life for a young woman in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Later letters deal with financial issues and hardships of rural family life faced by Helen Winters as she struggles with a somewhat transitory existence, raising six children with her husband Robert Winters, Jr. often away working. Robert U. Winters, Jr. materials include correspondence, diaries, and other personal materials. Letters between he and his future wife while he is away working for the CCC, and later while in Texas serving the army describe people and his surroundings in detail. The Winters and Related Families series contains correspondence and personal materials from the parents, brothers and sisters, and children of Robert U. Winters, Jr.
