Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

The Georgia B. Steele subseries contains correspondence and personal materials. Extensive correspondence with daughter Helen reveals a close mother-daughter relationship and details the hardships of rural family life in Illinois during the mid-20th Century. The Steele and Related Family subseries is made up of materials pertaining primarily to the relatives of Georgia B. Steele, her parents, siblings, and children. This series contains a significant amount of personal material pertaining to Harold Line's (husband of Marion Steele) naval service and work at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Also of interest is a memoir written by Mildred Anderson, a cousin of Helen Steele's, titled "My Experiences in the Working World." The memoir chronicles her experiences traveling around the Midwest during the 1950s, looking for work and trying to build a life for herself on her own.
