Biography of the Pullman News
Employee magazine published in Chicago by the Pullman Company.
Started in 1922, after F.L. Simmons was hired as the first supervisor of industrial relations in 1920, the magazine featured articles about all company departments and employees, and included stories of the comings and goings of workers, including news of promotions, retirements, deaths, and meritorious service. There were articles on the company’s history and current innovations, operations in its shops, departments, and other facilities across the company, and company sports teams, music ensembles, and picnics and other communal activities. Correspondents from each of the companies departments and divisions contributed content.
James Keeley, appointed vice president in 1930, was the magazine’s first editor. In 1934, the company’s new Public Relations Department assumed responsibility for the journal.
