Scope and Content of the Collection

Travel diaries, albums, photographs, carte de visite, cabinet cards, Kodak, tintypes, and stereographs. Many photographs are undated and unidentified. Some photographs of the Hibbard, Gregory, Durham, Buckingham, and Casselberry families. There are interesting stereographs of Chicago, including one of the Lyon & Healy building, as well as early travel photographs from Estes Park, Colorado, and Santa Barbara, California.

Biography of Addie V. Hibbard Gregory

Chicago area memoirist.

Addie V. Hibbard Gregory was born in 1859 and lived with her family in the Prairie Avenue district of Chicago. She was a descendant of the founder of a Chicago area hardware store named Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett, & Co., which later became True Value chain of hardware stores. She authored 2 books about her family, A Great-Grandmother Remembers (1940) (Call number E 5 .G862), and Reminiscences of Lydia Beekman Hibbard (1929) (Call number E 5 .H514).

Abstract

Travel diaries (Europe, Albania) of Addie V. Hibbard Gregory of Chicago, 1875-1931, together with travel photographs of Europe, Estes Park, Colorado, and Santa Barbara, California. Also numerous 19th and early 20th century family photographs (carte de visite, cabinet, Kodak, etc.) of the Hibbard, Gregory, Buckingham, Casselberry, and Durham families of Chicago and St. Paul, and a few stereograph images of Chicago, including Lyon & Healy.
