Scope and Content of the Collection
Church-related correspondence and documents of George A. Gonder, Christian Catholic Apostolic Church in Zion convert and official. In 1899 Gonder and his wife Margaret received their church memberships in Nickerson, Kansas, where he led the denomination's gathering until April or May of 1901. The Gonders then moved to Zion City, Illinois, where Gonder may have run or worked in the Horticultural Department. By 1906, he was in Plains, Kansas. Also includes postcards showing Zion City parks, buildings, and officials John Alexander Dowie and Wilbur Glenn Voliva.

Biography of George A. Gonder
Canadian immigrant and member of the Christian Catholic Apostolic Church in Zion, Illinois.
George Arthur Gonder was born in Ontario, Canada on Sept. 15, 1840. During the 1871 Canadian census, he is listed as a farmer living in Grimsby, Lincoln, Ontario, married to Margaret Lousia Price Gonder (1844-1908). His family immigrated to the United States around 1875, lived in Medford, Kansas in 1880, and moved to Nickerson, Kansas by 1890. Margaret died in October 1908 and George died in February 1910.
