Biography of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union

International temperance organization founded in 1874.

The Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) was one the first organizations of women devoted to social reform and was the nation's largest women's organization during the late 1800s. It was influential in the temperance movement, supported the 18th Amendment, and is still active today.
