Henshaw family papers
Scope and Content of the Collection
Materials primarily originating from Edward Henshaw (1844-1925) documenting the Henshaw family descended from Joshua Henshaw, who settled in Dorchester, Massachusetts about 1653. Includes manuscript and typescript writings, correspondence, genealogy notes, photographs, and the Henshaw coat of arms. Edward Henshaw was a nephew of David Henshaw (1791-1852), who served as Secretary of the Navy under John Tyler. The collection includes several manuscript writings about David Henshaw that were copied from other sources by Edward in 1861. It is unknown which family member collected materials after Edward’s death in 1925 but was most likely one of his daughters.
