Scope and Content of the Collection

Disbound volume of 177 individually mounted photographs of Chicago taken before and after the fire of 1871. Includes views of churches, bridges, businesses, houses, streets, rubble and miscellaneous devastated areas. Also, a letter to Byron L. Smith from C.R. Clark, written in 1911, offering such an album for “one hundred dollars completed”. Covers of the volume are included.

C.R. Clark’s letterhead records the following: “Receiver of Cash Grain. Grain bought and sold for future delivery. 536 Postal Telegraph Building, Chicago”.
