Biography of Val Lauder
Chicago Daily News columnist and feature writer.
Valarie Lauder started at the Chicago Daily News as a copygirl in the 1940s, and remained there until June 1952. She wrote a column for high school and college students, and created and then directed a press club of newspaper editors of the high schools, junior colleges, and colleges/universities in the greater Chicago area. She interviewed many political and historically significant people during her tenure, including some show business stars. While at the Daily News she was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
After leaving the Chicago Daily News Lauder continued to work for publications in New York City and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, among other places. She retired from teaching Feature Writing in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in June 2011.
