Collection of seven uniformly matted watercolor on paper drawings as well as one red conte crayon on paper drawing housed within a custom clamshell box. Labels originally accompanying the watercolors have been retained.

Biography of Ralph Fletcher Seymour

Ralph Fletcher Seymour (1876-1966) was an American artist, author, and publisher. Born in Milan, Illinois, Ralph Seymour taught decorative illustration at the Art Institute of Chicago, and was an artist-in-residence at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. Seymour played an influential role in Chicago's book arts scene, owning a successful publishing company and providing the illustrations for many books, including works by L. Frank Baum, John Milton, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and William Blake.

Abstract

Collection of seven watercolors and one drawing of the ancient Maya cities of Chichén Itzá and Uxmal, both located in the Yucatán Peninsula region of southeastern Mexico, by the artist Ralph Fletcher Seymour. These watercolors provide detailed depictions of the buildings found within these ancient Maya sites.
