H. B. Stone was general manager and then 2nd vice-president of CB&Q. His letters concern relations with other roads, personnel issues, rate legislation, and policies about passes. Holdredge was at this time general manager of the B&MRR in Nebraska and reports on daily happenings in that capacity. Some letters from 1889 and 1890 were destroyed in a fire.
