Smith, discussing the reception of his pamphlets about the Minnesota-Wisconsin frontier in the 1860's and 1870's.,Included are comments on the Battle of Birch Coulee, the Chippewa Valley, the Chippewa Indians, and the Eau Claire family of novelist G.P.R. James. There is also a carbon typescript of a review of Boyd's works from Minnesota History, Vol. 7, No. 4, 1926 (pp. 354-355)
