David J. Thompson postcard collection
Collection of approximately 1,400 postcards sent by David J. Thompson to Kaveh Akbar. The cards document Thompson's travels throughout the United States, primarily through the South and Midwest, and in Europe. Thompson, a photographer, poet, and former teacher, also includes some of his own photography on the front of the cards in addition to the correspondence on the back.

Also, a few pen sketches, three architect’s drawings of Sheppard Asylum in Baltimore, MD, a Sheppard Asylum Fifth Annual Report, 1897, two clippings, and a photo of Dr. Brown ca. 1865-1870.

David W. Cugell collection
A collection of Civil War material donated by Dr. David W. Cugell. Materials include a printed form deed, completed in manuscript, from New Orleans, Louisiana, dated April 8, 1862, authorizing Marx Kaufman's sale of Lucy Anne, a 17-year old enslaved girl, to Henry Levy. The collection also includes paper money (11 Confederate bills and 2 United States bills) and a U.S. Treasury check made out to the Zeltner Bros. for the sum of 10 cents, dated July 27, 1884.

The Detroit Publishing Company was a prolific publisher of postcards and photographic prints from the late 1890s to the early 1920s. A gift from John I. Monroe, this collection of approximately 16,000 postcards is a rich resource for views of North American cities and towns, landscapes, and national parks. The collection also includes views of many foreign countries.

D.F. Barry photographs of Hunkpapa Indians
Studio portraits of Hunkpapa chiefs Crow King, Gall, Sitting Bull, and Rain in the Face, as well as Standing Holy (Sitting Bull's daughter), Shooting Star (identified as a Sioux woman), and D.F. Barry with Rain in the Face. The images were taken at Fort Buford in 1881, at Bismarck in 1885, and possibly elsewhere in the Dakota Territory, but most of them were printed from the negatives and sold from Barry's Superior, Wisconsin, studio in the 1890s or later.
