Scope and Contents note
About 3500 letters, some to TS Howland, most to Ladd as secretary. Comprising proofs of losses, etc. in instances of damage to property by fire, traffic accidents, etc., and routing business concerning insurance of sundry properties. Bulk from CM Carter, GW Holdrege, R Watson, and HW Weiss. Notices of claims/proofs of loss. Topics: fire damage; engines sparking and setting pastures ablaze; damages to train cars, water tanks, company buildings (machine shops, engine houses, offices)and bridges; damage of freight cars by mobs in Chicago (CM Carter, July 25 1894); and insuring sheep held in CB&Q yards (Montgomery) (Peasley, 1897).
