Scope and Content of the Collection

From the Collection:

Ephemera, mostly postcards and viewbooks, collected by James Dunwoody.

About two thirds of the postcards and viewbooks are from destinations in the United States, with a large concentration from New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and California. The international postcards span several dozen countries, but those from Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland are the most numerous. Many of the postcards are both blank and undated, although some contain written correspondence and postmarking. Of note are postcards from national parks and similar destinations including Yellowstone, Niagara Falls, and the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Also included are postcards commemorating large events such as the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana and World’s Fairs in Chicago, New York, and Seattle. Many of the domestic postcards advertise restaurants, hotels (mostly Holiday Inns), various cruises, and airlines.

The collection also includes a small number of greeting cards and trade cards, mostly blank and undated. Also included with the miscellaneous ephemera is a book of World War II ration stamps.
