Chicago designer and calligrapher, founding head of the Department of Printing Arts of the School of the Art Institute, and Custodian of the John M. Wing Foundation on the History of Printing at the Newberry Library, 1931-1947. Collection focuses on Detterer's career before he came to the Newberry Library, and includes notes, memorabilia, correspondence, drawings, sketches, rubbings, and a few finished art works, including many by his Art Institute students.
Frederick W. Spiegel-Ernest Hemingway Papers
Collection relating to Ernest Hemingway assembled by his friend Frederick Spiegel. Contains miscellaneous correspondence including four original letters and several photostats written by Hemingway; numerous clippings and articles relating to Hemingway's life and letters; miscellaneous items about the American Red Cross ambulance service in World War I. Also, a photostat of Hemingway's will written in 1961.

Italian religious broadsides
Collection of 154 religious broadsides printed in Italy between 1611 and 1697. These broadsides were issued for various Catholic feast days and other religious occasions; the majority of items feature sonnets related to these topics. Many broadsides were commissioned by confraternities or trade guilds and most were dedicated to clerical or noble patrons of these organizations.

Love letters written during World War I from an Italian in Florence, Italy, to French opera singer Jenny Dufau living in Chicago. Also, brief correspondence concerning Dufau’s passport, a note from a New York opera company, and three photographs of musicians.

Martinengo dalle Palle collection of Italian death notices
Collection of 119 Italian death notices, primarily for members of the Martinengo family and other families of the Venetian nobility, collected by different members of the Martinengo dalle Palle family of Brescia and Venice throughout the 19th century. While most were printed in Venice, several were printed in Brescia or Padua. More than thirty different printers and presses are represented in the collection.

Road maps issued by the French tire manufacturer Pneu Michelin, better known as Michelin (4,990 maps, published 1905-ongoing). Geographic coverage most complete for Benelux, British Isles, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland; less complete for Eastern Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Asia. Accompanied by a small collection of printed ephemera, secondary sources, souvenirs, and collectibles (approximately 350 items, 1911-2016).
